Activities
Below is a list of CYC’s current activities and further information about them. For ‘Group Supervised’ activity ratios, refer to supervisor:participants and for CYC Instructed activities ratios refer to instructor:supervisor:participants. Group Supervised activities can be run by CYC instructors for an extra cost if required.

Please Note: If you are organising activity supervisors for your group, due to promoting the safe running of our activities, supervisors must remain on the activity they are trained on for a full day. They are unable to run more than one activity a day.
CYC Instructed Activities
A brilliant way to get campers outside of their comfort zones and having fun, BMX is a great activity, for the adventurous.
Group Ratio: 1:1:12 (max 12 participants)
Restrictions: 7 years and older
Facilitator: CYC Instructed + Group Supervisor (16yrs or over)
Conquer your fear of heights, increase your climbing skills, and encourage your mates to get to the top, Indoor climbing is always a hit with campers and with 14 climbs there’s something for all skill levels.
Group Ratio: 1:1:12
Restrictions: at groups discretion (if they fit harnesses)
Facilitator: CYC Instructed + Group Supervisor (16yrs or over)
Get campers to push themselves outside their comfort zone and work together as a team to stack as many milk crates on top of each other as possible. This is a great alternative to rock climbing if you are looking for more of a challenge or something focused more on teamwork.
Group Ratio: 1:2:12 (recommended); 1:2:14 (max)
Restrictions: at groups discretion (if they fit harnesses); Do not recommend for those who are pregnant or have injuries (especially back related)
Facilitator: CYC Instructed + 2 Group Supervisors (16yrs or over)
Another one of our traditional camp activities, target shooting provides a safe environment for campers to learn correct firearm etiquette and fire our air rifles at our target range. This is a great hit with older primary, intermediate, and high school aged groups.
Group Ratio: 1:1:12
Restrictions: 7 years and older (can be hard to load air rifles if too young)
Facilitator: CYC Instructed + Group Supervisor (16yrs or over)
Group Supervised Activities
An activity created to help campers learn to strategize, communicate, and work together, all while having fun and getting active. Using a food chain pyramid, all campers are designated Herbivore, Carnivore, Human, or an Element, and then work to either visit all the food stations or take lives away from the other animals.
Group Ratio: 1:15 (max 30 participants)
Restrictions: 7 years and older

Why not try something a bit old school and give archery a go. A great way to develop hand eye coordination and encourage campers to develop new skills.

Do this during the day with blindfolds or take the whole group on a fun adventure in the dark, either way campers will have a blast working together to get to the end of the trail.

Enjoy our great outdoors and our own native bush connected to the Hakarimata Ranges. Take a 30min bush walk and have a small taste of our trails or take one of the many well known DOC tracks (choose between 1.5, 3, or 7 hrs) and take campers on an adventure to remember. During the dark, glowworms can also be found on the flat part of the first 10 minutes of the Hakarimata Staircase Walk, only a short walk from camp.

Challenge a friend to a dual and see who wins, located to the west side of the pool.

There’s nothing like roasting marshmallows and damper, at one of our campfire spots around CYC, to foster community within your camp, so why not add this activity to your next camp!

A great campout adds an extra layer of adventure to any camp. Take your group on a 20-minute walk or 2.5-hour hike to our Firewood Creek site or ask about one of our other onsite camp spots for your next camp at CYC (BYO tents). The site is accessible by car for parents and teachers wanting to drop off gear.

Getting back to the heart of old fashioned camping, Eeling is a fun activity to get campers working together and learning survival skills.
Group Ratio: 1:15

If our short bush walks don’t sound like enough adventure to you, try our Extreme Stream, and walk up our main stream from the Hakarimata Ranges, while navigating rock formations, enjoying nice cool water on your feet, and working as a team! Also, a great place to find glowworms at night.

Zipline across the Camp Waipa pond and enjoy an exhilarating adventure, you might even get a bit wet!

Why not give ziplining across the Camp Waikato pond a go and get your adrenaline pumping. With our new added Flying Fox, no one has to miss out or get wet!

Want a fun free time activity that everyone can get involved in? We now have a Gaga Ball Pit, located at the Camp Waipa playground and Camp Waikato playground.

Put your navigation skills to the test and have a bunch of fun with friends, while using our geocaches to find way points around the CYC site.

There is nothing better on a hot day at CYC than to cool off while taking on the twists and turns of the Hydroslide.
Group Ratio: 2:30

A great way to get those that like to stay indoors involved during free time.

Have fun on the water and give kayaking a go, all while completing challenges! Can you walk across a lineup of kayaks or race your friend to the other side of the lake?

Minigolf is great fun, but it’s even better when you can do it at camp with your mates and challenge them to a minigolf competition.

Located at Camp Waipa, it’s a great activity, especially during the warmer parts of the year, but also conveniently located not too far from a nice hot showers for our hardcore fans, during the colder months.

With locations to find all over site, Orienteering is a great activity to encourage teamwork within campers, as they scramble to find as many locations as possible in the allotted time.

Bringing something a little different, Paddleboats are a fun activity that can be done on our main pond. It also runs great in conjunction with kayaking.

Both Camp Waikato and Camp Waipa have their own playgrounds groups can also use the playground at the centre of camp, however adult supervision is required at all times.

We allow swimming in our ponds at CYC while wearing life jackets, this means that while using kayaks and paddleboats, campers can now jump in and have a swim too!

This activity encourages teamwork, problem solving, and lots of fun, while campers work together to create a raft that stays upright while in the water. You can even have speed races between teams!

This activity can be played like capture the flag, last man standing, team verse team, target shooting, and much more, a great way to get active and have a blast!

Whether you are looking for a space to have a pool party, cool down, or relax after a long day, this is the place for you.
Group Ratio: 1:15
Restrictions: at groups discretion (if they can swim or aren’t too short for pool, may use life jackets for unconfident swimmers); recommended max number in hot pool is 15.
Facilitator: Group Supervised (16yrs or over)
If you like to relax on a cold winters day or after the kids have gone to bed, then the Hot Pool is for you!

With a playing field at both Camp Waikato and Camp Waipa, and a permanent Volley Ball net, Team Sports are always a bunch of fun.

A series of between 6 and 12 challenging rotations, Top Town is another great team building experience that can be run together as a whole camp, great for the first or last day of camp.

Team Building is great at building confidence in not only the campers’ self but also in their entire group. A great way to start camp or encourage teamwork and bonding within any school class.

Team Building SOPs
Our newest activity which has replaced, or rather, upgraded the Mudslide at Camp Waikato. Perfect for summer days of endless fun. Conveniently located near the showers for those who want to enjoy it in the colder months too.

If you want to change up camp a bit, use this RAMs form to help start off your safety for any site wide game you create, maybe it'll be a game of capture the flag or a water fight... or something else entirely unique to your camp!!!
X-Shot (like Nerf) Wars is a great alternative to paintball for campers that don’t want to get hit with paintballs or are on the younger side, and is run in our Marquee obstacle course, meaning that it also stays dry on those wet days! X-Shot Blasters are proudly sponsored by ZURU.

Christian Youth Camps Inc has Premium Adventure Activities accreditation that has been audited and certified by Qualworx against the Safety Audit Standard for Adventure Activities. Qualworx also audits the safety of all standard activities on site to allow us to provide safe and enjoyable activities for all skill abilities.
We also have ISO 21101 (Adventure Tourism Safety Management Systems) Certification which is also audited and certified by Qualworx against the ISO 21101:2014 requirements.
ISO21101 Certification is the gold standard of safety assurance for an adventure operator. It demonstrates that we meet the ISO21101, having been checked and certified to the most rigorous possible standards of safety.
